Bulk Treated Salt is a high-performance, "Type 2" de-icing product consisting of traditional rock salt that has been pre-wet or fully encapsulated with a high-strength liquid de-icing agent, such as magnesium chloride or calcium chloride, often blended with organic performance enhancers (OBPE). This treatment creates a "synergistic effect" where the liquid accelerates the brine-making process for immediate melting, while the salt provides long-lasting residual action. In Ontario, treated salt is the professional's choice for extreme conditions because it remains effective at temperatures as low as -30°C (-22°F)—well below the point where standard rock salt fails. Additionally, the specialized coating makes the salt "sticky," significantly reducing bounce and scatter by up to 30%, ensuring the product stays on the pavement rather than wasting away in the gutter or garden.
