Recycled Products
Asphalt Road Grindings, also known as Milled Asphalt or Asphalt Scalpings, are produced by a cold-milling machine that shaves off the top layer of existing paved roads. Unlike crushed recycled asphalt, grindings are typically smaller and more uniform, ranging from a fine grit to 3/4" pieces. This product is rich in bitumen (tar), which acts as a natural binding agent. When spread and compacted during the heat of the summer, the sun "activates" the oils in the grindings, causing the particles to fuse together. This creates a hard, water-resistant, and virtually dust-free surface that mimics the look and feel of a permanent paved road at a significantly lower price point than hot-mix asphalt.
